Ok, hear me out! :) I know that there is quite a rivalry between 1.6 and CSS players but maybe its time to use this for something productive. May not work, may not launch, may not get off the ground but I would like to put this idea out there to see what some people think.
The basic idea is an All-Star team of traditional 1.6ers and one of CSS-ers. The squad is made up of 8 players, the best of the best hopefully. The team is drafted in month 1. Then the team has approx 1 month of practice. For 5 months the season will run with one match per month. Each match is made up of two parts - one game of CSS and one game of 1.6 ON THE SAME MAP. These games will run as per a usual CS ruleset (Max round 15, swap at HT, money, etc).
Each game is worth 1 point so over the course of the season there are 10 points up for grabs. Many would think that it should split 5-5 but I am hoping for upsets, close games and visible improvements. Can also be used to spark life into the servers (if not the community). And maybe the rivalry, etc will add the spice that is needed.
The purpose of the squad of 8 is to allow for changes between matches if a player is weaker or stronger on a certain map, or for schedule conflicts or whatever other reasons...There could also be a team manager if necessary (if people cannot be trusted to either pick a team or manage a squad).
Open to questions, comments, queries, criticism (constructive please) - just want to get a discussion rolling and see what ideas are there, etc. It's something a little different and just an idea that was sparked by people trash-talking in a thread and saying that 1.6 players were better than Source, etc. Let's see if that negative energy could be used to build something worthwhile!
